Our History
The YMCA of Greater Westfield has been a home to a Gymnastics Program since before 1980.
The program started out with one coach, a small team program and one class.
In 1988, Linda Wright was hired to Head Coach and since then the program has flourished. Bringing the gym new equipment, adding a larger Class Program to it's already established Team Program, the program grew. After over 10 years of working as the Head Coach and Program Director, Linda's reign culminated in hosting the largest competition in YMCA gymnastics, Regional Championships in 1997. Linda is still coaching for the program, teaching team, classes and beginner coaches.
"It is a joy to watch gymnasts discover and work to achieve their goals - Success is in the smiles!", Linda Wright
In 2003, her daughter, Megan Wright began as Program Director/Head Coach. Adding more Class & Team options and more time in the gym, the program has a team of over 40 gymnasts partnered with an extensive class program that offers something for everyone from ages 18 months-18 years! And as the program expands, so will the facility. The YMCA is hoping to be able to offer a full time dedicated gym for the gymnastics program in the future.
"My goal for this program is to give every little girl the passion, the will to work and push through the challenges, the ability to overcome and succeed. Those traits stay with you for a life time." Megan Wright
